"A glimpse of magic"

Ok, so it was months and months ago now, but would you indulge us a little blog post about Latitude? It is, after all, cold and miserable and wintery, so a brief excursion into reminiscence about warmer, cider-drinking times is just what's needed.

Basically, we found some links we never got round to posting and - well - thought better late than never.

So here's lots of Whatsonstage coverage of Latitude including an interview with our stage manager Kirsten Turner.

Here's the Guardian review which describes Every Brilliant Thing - alongside nabokov friends and collaborators Tangled Feet and Rachel Rose Reid - as "a glimpse of magic".

And here's a Guardian blog which gives us a very nice namecheck, though we heartily disagree with much of the rest of it.

Latitude: Every Brilliant Thing

As well as our shows in the Theatre Tent, we're thrilled to have our very own tent at Latitude this year, dedicated to the incredible Every Brilliant Thing.

Those of you at Arts Club 2 will remember Paul Burgess and Simon Daw's unique installation created as a response to Duncan Macmillan's play Sleeve Notes. At Latitude, Paul and Simon are remounting the installation in its own tent in Pandora's Playground, where we're inviting lots of people to come and perform Duncan's monologue throughout the weekend. Expect all sorts of interesting performers from across the Latitude stages, and some very special guests.

EVERY BRILLIANT THING
A breathtaking installation surrounding a heartbreaking play about a boy who makes a list of every brilliant thing.

“I believed that my mum was surrounded by things that would make her really happy but that she’d stopped noticing them. I began to write down everything that was wonderful about the world.”

Every Brilliant Thing started as a monologue by playwright Duncan Macmillan about a boy who tries to stop his depressed mum from killing herself by writing a list of everything in the world that is brilliant. Since it was first performed, members of the public have submitted thousands of brilliant things to the Every Brilliant Thing Facebook group to include on the ever lengthening list. Now designers Paul Burgess and Simon Daw have created an extraordinary installation of all the brilliant things, within which the play will be performed by a host of Latitude performers at regular intervals throughout the festival.

Latitude: Crunch & When Cheryl Was Brassic

We've premiered new work at Latitude every year since the first festival in 2006 from writers including Mike Bartlett, John Donnelly, Matt Hartley, Jack Thorne, Ché Walker and Alexandra Wood. This year we're proud to present two brand new ‘stand-up theatre’ plays commissioned specifically for Latitude and premiering in the Theatre Tent this weekend...

CRUNCH & WHEN CHERYL WAS BRASSIC

Two brand new plays about fighting, fucking and the fall of global capitalism from the sabre sharp pens of  Duncan Macmillan and Leo Richardson.

A couple tries to explain the death of global Capitalism to their child, but the more they talk, the more they realise they don't understand a thing. Before long an angry mob is hurling bricks through their window and a net is suspended throughout the city to catch falling bankers. Amidst the fallout from bogus expenses claims and bank bailouts a worldwide revolution is taking place, stretching all the way to Disneyworld.

Without a tenner to her name, Cheryl is facing a weekend of tedium unless she can find some cost-effective fun. Fortunately, her mate has just the tonic. Under the tutelage of lucky-in-love lesbian Shaniqua, Cheryl attempts to seduce her disinterested boyfriend Dean with a Britney Spears dance routine, a bottle of champagne and some carefully applied Nutella. Can Cheryl beat the credit crunch and still retain her assets?

Latituuuuuude!

Excitement abounds at nabokov towers as the clock ticks towards our favourite weekend of the entire year.

Yes it's that Latitude time again, and we can't wait.

Amidst the purchasing of wind-up torches and silly festival hats, we're busy preparing to present our biggest ever programme of work at the festival...

On Thursday night at 9:40pm in the Theatre Tent there's a very special one off performance of IS EVERYONE OK?

Then on Friday at 12:40pm and again on Saturday at 10:45pm we're premiering two brand new short plays commissioned especially for Latitude from the sabre sharp pens of Duncan Macmillan and Leo Richardson - CRUNCH & WHEN CHERYL WAS BRASSIC.

And throughout the weekend in Pandora's Playground, our very own tent will house the breathtaking EVERY BRILLIANT THING installation within which a wide range of performers including some very special guests will perform Duncan Macmillan's heartbreaking monologue Sleeve Notes at regular intervals between midday and 9pm.
