Internationally acclaimed new writing company nabokov are working with award winning MC and folk artist Dizraeli to develop a brand new production for 2013. Over the course of this development week we will be exploring how to make a piece of theatre which experiments with traditional folk stories, how to tell them in a contemporary and relevant way, and how to incorporate music and spoken word in a way which not only enhances the performance but also the narrative.
What we want:
We’re looking for performers of every type who are able to add something unique to the mix. We want to work with people who are passionate about what they do, have interesting ideas and different ways of working. You might be an actor, musician, dancer or spoken word artist, a mix of several of these or something else entirely. You’ll probably be required to do at least some acting, and musical skills are a big advantage.
You’ll need to be available for a workshop audition on the afternoon of Thursday 6th December (location TBC, but in London).
What we can offer you:
This is a paid development week at a rate of £400. We’re looking for a total of 5 performers. We hope that the piece will be developed into a full production in 2013, with major co-producers and multiple performance opportunities, however acceptance onto the development week is not a guarantee of involvement in the final production.
The auditions:
There will be two audition groups, 2pm-3.30pm and 4pm-5.30pm, on the afternoon of Thursday 6th December. To apply, please email a CV and any supporting material (reviews, video, photos etc) to paul@nabokov-online.com before Wednedsay 5th December. We’ll try to get back to everyone who applies but this may not be possible if the volume of applicants is high. If you’re successful we’ll send you details of what to prepare and your audition slot.
Good luck!

Hi,
The email link to apply seems to be broken - keeps bouncing back, as does the talent@ one. Hope you don't mind me sending like this!
I would really love to audition for you on Thursday. I love being involved in development work and recently did a development week at the Barbican with RETZ. I act and sing and can move well. I also have a fascination with folk tales and some of my best childhood memories are of listening to my Dad tell me stories from Scotland and reading me folk stories and Grimm's Fairy Tales.
I also remember my son's love of the Anansi stories when he was in Infant school. We all have so many stories in our history and I would love to be part of developing ideas for bringing them new life and a contemporary context.
Also, just googled Dizraeli - Fab!
Best wishes,
Kathy

Hi Lovely people at Nabokov,
My emails have all bounced too so hope you dont mind me posting here!!
I would love to audition for the Dizraeli Development week! I appeared in the Nabokov Art Club: Fable night in a retelling of Red Riding Hood so feel I very much understand the aim of re-imagining folk tales that this development week aims for. I am also a singer, can play the flute and am a physically strong performer so I feel I could bring quite a lot of ideas and energy to this project.

Hi,
Only just come across the ad on ideas tap - email keeps on bouncing back. I would love to apply and be invited to the audition. It sounds so right for what I am looking for right now.
I am a dancer who has always been one, but only recently decided to do something with the way my body moves and reacts to music and now taking part in various projects around London.
I have also been involved the Cabaret scene and choreographed and performed at various festivals in a can can troupe.
Please send me an alternative email so I can send you my CV. I would love to be involved in the project and there are lots of movement ideas that I can bring to the table around folk tales.
Many thanks,
Ida

Hello!
Same problem as everyone else, the email doesn't work. So here's my bit!
I am an actress, with a strong background in physical theatre, mask work and puppetry. Most recently, I've worked with a company called Flabberghast creating shows for Bunraku puppets. Our newest show is centered around myth and well known stories, so I have been living in that world for the past few weeks already. I studied masks in the Lecoq style, moving from neutral to clown noses and all that falls in between. I've also spent time in Bali studying traditional shadow puppetry, mask work and dance. I feel I can bring a lot of new and exciting story telling techniques to the table.
I have a love of story telling and have actually been trying to breath life into it myself. I run a night called Heads or Tales where for each event there is a different theme and I am in charge of getting performers to tell stories around the theme. The point of my night is honesty and to keep the spirit of a good story alive. My last event was on Halloween and the theme was fear. We had all kinds of fear stories and at the end I told a story while acting it out with shadow puppets that I had created.
Your project really excites me. It's right up my alley and I think I can give you some fun original ideas. I'm no stranger to developing new work, so would enjoy working as part of a team.
For a copy of my CV and head shot please email me at bonnyleedavis@gmail.com.
Thanks,
Bonny Davis
